The alarm sounds, fortunately you slept reasonably well last night, you feel fighting fit for this day of hiking at the source of the Loire river.
Are your friends ready? Your walking shoes tightly laced, your flask full and chocolate bars in your rucksack. We’re off to climb the Mont Gerbier de Jonc mountain!
Now you’re at the foot of the Mont Gerbier de Jonc mountain. The height of 1,551 metres doesn’t scare you. The view up there looks magnificent. Follow the blue arrows and you’re off!
The summit approaches. Here the three sources “L’Authentique”, “La Véritable” and “La Géographique” (as they’re locally known), converge, giving rise to the longest river in France: the Loire.
Did you know that the river runs for 1,020 kilometres before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean? You’re now at the so-called kilometre zero (the summit) of this long adventure.
You thank Marc for persuading your group of friends to experience this climb together. The flora and fauna on the Mont offer you magnificent scenery.
The 360° panorama over the volcanic landscape is instantly engraved on your memories. This breathtaking view more than merits your morning’s efforts.
After the descent, restaurants await you for an invigorating and festive lunch, prepared using Ardèche specialities.
A little further on, you can stock up on delicacies at the traditional chocolatier in Sainte Eulalie.
Back to La Plage Fleurie. A good shower, comfortable clothes, the timing is perfect for a short refreshing siesta in the shade.
Unless you opt for a swim in the water park and sunbathing session in the Ardèche sunshine.
You go the grocery buying a few things for pre-dinner drinks at Sophie and Julien’s bungalow. You have peace of mind knowing that if their cooking is always not up to scratch, you can have takeaway pizzas for the entire fantastic team.
The day was energetic, sun-drenched, fun and cheerful, and the evening is only just beginning. You are here.
